In 2006, at the age of 27, founder of Rent A Date For Charity, Lisa Connell, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Lisa found through her own personal experience that there is little known about the research, treatments and information available surrounding the illness and its cause. Therefore from Lisa's own battle with the illness she has made it her personal mission to raise £1 million for charity through a unique FUNdraising initiative she has created Rent A Date For Charity.

Rent a Date for Charity is the 'Original Auction Dating Website' allowing everyday people to put themselves up for auction and a chance for Celebrities to meet with their fans. Highest bidder wins!! With proceeds going to brain cancer related charities.

Early in 2008, Rent A Date For Charity announced its collaboration with Brainstrust - the Meg Jones Brain Cancer Charity. This collaboration enables us to all work together and unite our efforts in raising awareness and funding for brain cancer related illnesses and their sufferers. Brainstrust was set up by Dr. Helen Bulbeck whose daughter Meg Jones was sadly diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2004.

Dr. Helen explains: “'Meg's tumour was low grade. Each type is graded on a scale 1-4. Grade 1 and 2 tumours are said to be 'low grade' and grade 3 and 4 'high grade'.”

Through this life changing diagnosis Meg and family struggled to get information or options for treatment here in the UK and thus looked further afield, thankfully Megs scans were sent to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston Massachusetts where Professor Black was set to remove her tumour using a pioneering technique, Intra-operative MRI scanning. The only other place in the world that offers Intra operative MRI surgery is in Hanover, but the expertise there was not as advanced. Four years on, Meg has had her tumour successfully removed and has recently got married.

With Lisa's tireless efforts to achieve her goal and to raise the profile of rising number of brain cancer patients and the desperate need for funds for research in to this increase, Rent A Date for Charity is a unique FUNdraising initiative which aims to help raise the awareness worldwide, to give hope to brain cancer sufferers all around the world and put the FUN back into FUNdraising!
