| About The Ethan Perkins Trust | |
|
The Ethan Perkins Trust was set up in memory of 11 year old Ethan Matthew Perkins. Ethan was diagnosed with a brain tumour in May 2008, aged 10 years old. The brain tumour he was diagnosed with is called dipg (diffuse instrinsic pontine glioma). Diffuse pontine gliomas account for 10-15 percent of all childhood central nervous system tumors. There are no known factors or conditions that predispose an individual to the development of diffuse pontine gliomas. There is no surgical option in the treatment of these tumors. Because they are difficult to treat, the outcome for brainstem gliomas is poor. After diagnosis, the survival time is on average 9 to 12 months. Sadly Ethan's fight with this monster tumour ended on 8th January 2009.

Horrified by the lack of funding for research and the prospect that it is unlikely that a cure will be found, Ethan's family and friends set up the The Ethan Perkins Trust with the objective of raising funds for research, support and awareness into childhood brain tumours.
